Blogging about Technology

This week's assignment is to blog about technology. Quote Wikipedia: "Technology is a broad concept that deals with human as well as other animal species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment."

Of course my natural inclination is to take the assignment literally and blog about something completely different than the intent of the post, perhaps I could blog about fire, or more specifically the discovery of how to make and use fire by humanity. Another good one, remembered from the excellent movie Thumbsuckser, is soap. Greatest invention of all time. Well, he might have said antiseptics and really meant antimicrobials

I could blog about World of Warcraft. That takes up a lot of my time. My character is pretty awesome and we just had a new patch about a week ago with some cool new content. If I were to talk about World of Warcraft I'd have to mention all the cool tools I use to help play the game, from nifty little bits of LUA code called add-ons to character auditors. I could go on for several paragraphs on how sophisticated a game it really is.

I could talk about the web technologies that I use every day and just couldn't live without. Gmail and Google Reader, Reddit, Facebook, the list goes on and on. I can talk about my dell mini 9 net book and how I have the internet in a package the size of a hard cover book. It's like the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy but real.

I could talk about Firefox, the greatest web browser of all time, or Google chrome the second best, if only it had all the extensions from Firefox that I need to use. Adblock Plus, I'm talking about you. (This add-on is so important I install it on my family and friends computers and don't tell them so they think the internet has much less advertising than it really does. Don't believe me, check your Firefox if I've used your computer, it's there.)

I could talk about a lot of things, and I guess I have. So, I'm done here.

Regards,
-Benjamin

Ben ... sometimes you make me giggle. I don't know why but this post really tickled my fancy.
