Blogging about Books

Goodreads is an application I first encountered on Facebook. I've used it to rate hundreds of books. I don't see much use of the social aspect, I just never really find books to read from my friends. Now, my co workers, they're full of ideas, which ,working at a library, makes a certain amount on sense. I like the to be read list feature, though I don't use it enough. There should be a way I can add books or ideas to that list better, IM, e-mail, twitter, SMS, something to make it more convenient to capture the idea when I have it.

There should also be a service like this for movies. Well, I'm sure there is one but I just haven't found it yet. IMDB pro is NOT what I'm looking for, I could do without the forum trolls and celeb stalkers

Anyways, the automated recommendations are useful to help me find more by an author I already like, Neil Gaiman and Cory Doctorow for example, but not so great at helping me find more authors to read. I guess their algorithms for taking the stuff I have rated and the stuff I have read and the stuff I like and mashing them together and spitting out something I should try reading just aren't all that great yet. Maybe the netflix people can help with that.
